Day Tripping...

Kempton Park Autojumble, 2009
Ah, the world of the motorcycle autojumble - all human life is there and then some... Kempton Park race course (that's horses, not motors) hosts several every year, and it's good value - a fiver to get in and a lot to see, from the sublime to the ridiculous. Arrive just before it opens and the first thing you see is the queue - it snakes through the car park for what seems at least half a mile, but once the doors open it moves remarkably quickly. Admire the bikes parked up outside as you shuffle past them - there's normally a good selection with a lot of old brit iron. And once in there's a bewildering selection of bikes for sale (I found my CRM250 here a few years back). You'd need to be brave to take on some of them though...
Once you've bought the basket case of your dreams, Kempton can provide everything you need to bring it back to pristine condition. Well, almost. It has to be said that a lot of the treasures on sale exhibit a certain, ahem, patina of age.

And when you get your motor running you'll need to get your riding kit. Kempton's a good source? Oh yes...

Seriously - this is a lot of fun if you like spending a morning looking through piles of rusty junk in the hope of finding that elusive grommet for your Grindley Peerless. Can't guarantee you'll find the bit you want, but you will find stuff you didn't know you wanted! Tend to see the same traders in the same pitches at each event, and there are a lot of stalls selling good quality spares at reasonable prices. Recommended.
